Hanz Ling

Math

Mr. Ling is a part-time math teacher at Veritas, with overall teaching experience that spans over ten years. He has taught students at Veritas in 6th grade, 6th grade honors, Algebra 1, and Geometry. This year, he is also teaching AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics. He has led students at Veritas into club programs such as chess competitions and the ISS Space Quest program. Mr. Ling has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management Economics at the University of California of Santa Cruz. He has furthermore completed a Masters of Arts in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Talbot theological seminary with two years as the primary teaching assistant to the head professors of the program. Some works include a 5-session workshop on ministering to depression and trauma. With unfinished degrees in Computer Science and Psychology, Mr Ling has had a total of 22 years of education. With these degrees, Mr. Ling has gone to run a successful business dealing with imports and exports, manufacturer rep., and OEM for over ten years before getting a calling towards pastoral care, where he sold his business and went to provide counseling and therapy at the Long Beach Rescue Mission instead. Ultimately, due to the covid event, Mr. Ling’s passion and calling to teach has led him to Veritas today.

One thing that made teaching mathematics and sciences acceptable for Mr. Ling was the fact that it was ministry oriented, and not merely teaching abstract academics. He loves to see God integrated into everything, especially in rigorous academics, and he loves to help the students to love the academics as well. Of all his accomplishments, he feels the most meaningful achievements have been the transformation of lives, from brokenness to shining the glory of God. In his spare time, Mr. Ling loves to cook, work with dogs, learn new things, create content for learning, and lead worship. His favorite Bible verse is from Psalms 19:14 “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing and acceptable to You, O LORD my Rock and Redeemer.”
