Sophia Moreira
AP Calculus, Latin I, Latin II Teacher
Mrs. Sophia Moreira is excited to teach Latin and math again this year at Veritas! She graduated from Stanford University with a double-major in math (Honors) and classics (Latin focus). Her research includes exploring computational complexity classes on closed timelike curves and translating 12th century Latin scrolls from Admont Monastery. In her youth, she won 1st Place on the International Medusa Mythology Exam and in the Illinois Latin Tournament before giving a speech in Latin to over 500 peers. In college, she was Co-Editor-in-Chief of Stanford’s classics journal and a contest writer for the Junior Classical League. Mrs. Moreira also enjoyed math competitions more casually: she qualified for AIME and USACO Silver, and earned 2nd Place in the Stanford Probability for Computer Science Contest. Since graduating, Mrs. Moreira has brought her love of learning and interest in competitions to hundreds of students across a wide variety of subjects and ages, and specializes in helping kids exceed their learning goals while upholding a strong commitment to the ideals of truth, goodness, and other Christian values. She aligns with the classical education philosophy because of how it fosters both academic excellence and holistic character development. Outside of teaching, she enjoys Bible studies, dance fitness, and going on walks with her husband. One of her favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:8.
